Though Hawaii offers no mass-transit interisland system, several small ferries serve specific visitor and commuter routes between the islands of Maui and Molokai, and Maui and Lanai. The only other way to travel interisland by water is on a cruise ship.
Passenger Ferries
Expeditions Inc. runs passenger ferries between Lahaina, Maui and Manele Harbor, Lanai five times a day. This 50-minute ride (each way) costs $25 one way ($50 roundtrip) for adults, and $20 one way ($40 roundtrip) for children ages 2 through 11. Children under the age of two can travel free but must sit on an adult's lap.
Schedule:
Ferries leave Lahaina Harbor daily at 6:45 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
Ferries leave Manele Harbor daily at 8:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.

The Molokai Ferry runs between Kaunakakai, Molokai and Lahaina, Maui once daily, seven days a week. The 149-passenger ferry offers one commuter trip daily, with sight-seeing charters available during the day. Commuter runs leave Kaunakakai at 6 a.m. and arrive in Lahaina at 7:15 a.m.; the return trip leaves Lahaina at 5 p.m. and arrives in Kaunakakai at 6:15 p.m. The one-way voyage takes approximately 90 minutes.
Commuter tickets cost $15 per round-trip ticket. Public rates are $40 one way for adults and $20 for children. For information or reservations, call 1-800-275-6969.
