A car is not an asset in Lahaina. Find a parking lot, lock up and set out on foot to explore this historic harbor village. Once the playground of Hawaiian royalty and later a bawdy whaling port, Lahaina is now the Fun Capital of Maui, the sooner or later destination of 2 million people a year.

Expect this place to be jammed from morning to night with people looking for a good time, a good buy or good meals. There's plenty to choose from. The harbor, which once was a port for whaling ships, is now filled with cruise boats that offer snorkeling and whale watching tours. There are high-end, fine dining restaurants, lots of oceanfront bars and casual eateries that feature late-night dancing, jazz, blues, rock and Hawaiian, a top-drawer luau, an exquisite, long-running stage show called 'Ulalena, a clever and hilarious magic show starring Warren and Annabelle, shops by the dozens, galleries galore — all somehow fused to Lahaina's still evident past.
